Pregnancy and Hair Loss

Postby Laura » Fri Jul 09, 2010 3:35 pm

Hi Guys! I'm writing 'cause since my pregnancy I start to lose a lot of hair. I went for a check-up and the doctor told me that it was normal due to my condition and then it will stop. I gave birth a baby girl 5 moth ago and my hair loss is even worst. Maybe is because of the stress but now that I started to read about it I think I have Female Alopecia. I don't know what to do. I want to run and buy every treatment out there 'cause my dermatologist only gave me Shampoo... I bought a tonic for the hair by myself and instead of helping me now I got spots all over my scalp! Is there anyone out there suffering the same? Thanks!

Hi Laura!

I'm not a doctor but if the tonic gave you an allergic reaction you should suspend the treatment and go back to your specialist ASAP.

And let us know!

All the best,

Hi!
Thanks for answer me back. I actually stopped that treatment my doctor told me that was a good thing to do 'cause I got an allergic reaction to one of the components... ashamed... it wasn't prescribed by anyone... I bought from internet... I had to wait until the spots went away and then I started a treatment. Don't remember the name of the product here but I will post them when I get back home. What I remember is that it's a Shampoo, Conditioner and some pills, everything from the same branch.

Doctor told me I will not be bold like him ;) hope so!

Hi!
The line of products are "Revalid"
I bought the Shampoo, the Conditioner, the Tonic and the Capsules.
It says that regenerates the hair, lending it a glossy shine. It improves the health of the scalp and the hair texture, prevents the scalp from drying out, replenishes the scalp's natural oil and calm and soothes it.

Apparently it's a light treatment 'cause I don't need more than that... no powerful drugs and stuffs...
I'm in Europe so it's easy to find... don't know in other parts of the world...

Let's see how it goes!

Hi Laura!
I was using the Revalid Capsules for a while and it didn't help me with my hair loss (I'm not saying is not going to help you) I had to stop taking them 'cause they where giving me a severe stomachache.

I still using the shampoo and the conditioner thought... I feel nicer with my hair... but still loosing it...

Now I started with other pills called Quinoral. Did you used them? did you heard about them?

Sorry to hear that.
Just to give you hope. I read yesterday that women that had a baby and suffered from hair loss have to wait between 6 and 12 month to get their hair back to normal... I will try to find the source of that text and I will post it for you ;)

Small world... this is what a member of the forum wrote on Yahoo! Answers...
Robert Ryhco, the one that you asked about his Avatar :o

"Normally a woman should loss about 100 hairs per day but during pregnancy there is a lot of estrogen that make the growing stage of the hair longer...
Normally up to 15 percent of the hair is in a resting stage... but in pregnancy this amount is reduce too.
But those 100 hairs per day still falling down... and because there are less hair waiting to grow and the growing phase takes longer... women experience hair loss...

Now when she gives birth the levels of estrogen goes down, and a lot of hair follicles enter into the resting stage... in this stage is normal to see a lot of hair coming out in the shower/brush/pillow...

But those hairs that are in resting stage now are going to start to grow and her hair will be as healthy as before... this process takes between 6 and 12 month...

What to do? hair thickeners or mousse to give her a better look... cause nothing will stop this kind of fall... if she have long hair probably will be more noticeable."
